Each hut in the valley, past and present, has a unique history and story to tell.
Many huts have been constructed from discarded materials from home and have been christened with meaningful names. The huts have provided a home for generations of valley goers and users have many fond memories of a weekend spent at ‘the hut’.
The Orongorongo Club encourages hut owners and users to record the history of the huts and the committee have started collating these records.
The committee has also started recording oral histories from older members of the club, many of whom have spent over 60 years in the valley.
As we collect histories, we will endeavour to include them on these pages. Read a short history of the valley here.
